The Ryder Cup officially started with its first official contest in 1927 in the United States at Worcester Country Club in Worcester, Massachusetts. It was initially a competition between Great Britain and the United States. Prior to that, in 1921 and 1926, there were precursor matches between American and British professionals, but the official Ryder Cup with the trophy donated by Samuel Ryder began in 1927.
For the current 2025 Ryder Cup, the event started on Friday, September 26, 2025, at the Bethpage Black Course in New York. The competition runs for three days until Sunday, September 28, 2025.
