On that day, 12-year-olds Anissa Weier and Morgan Geyser lured their friend Payton Leutner into the woods in Waukesha, Wisconsin, and stabbed her 19 times. The attack was meant to appease the fictional internet character Slender Man, whom the attackers believed was real. Despite severe injuries, Leutner survived the stabbing after crawling to a nearby road where she was found by a cyclist who called for help.
