Texas joined the Southeastern Conference (SEC) in 2024. Originally scheduled to join on July 1, 2025, Texas and Oklahoma negotiated an early exit from the Big 12 and began SEC league play in the 2024–25 academic year after a buyout agreement was reached in February 2023. The SEC unanimously approved their membership back in July 2021, with formal invitations extended and accepted by the schools' boards shortly thereafter.
