Humans first landed on the Moon on July 20, 1969. The Apollo 11 Lunar Module, named Eagle, touched down on the Moon's surface at 20:17 UTC. Neil Armstrong then became the first person to step onto the Moon about six hours later, on July 21 at 02:56 UTC, followed shortly by Buzz Aldrin. They spent around two and a half hours exploring the lunar surface before returning to the Command Module and eventually back to Earth.
