Babies generally start to lift and turn their heads around 2 months of age, especially during tummy time. Significant head control, where they can hold their head up without support, typically develops between 3 to 5 months old. By around 4 to 6 months, most babies can hold their head up steadily without needing support. It is normal for some variation, but if a baby cannot hold their head up by 3 to 4 months, it is advisable to consult a pediatrician. Tummy time helps strengthen the neck muscles needed for this skill.
