when do bunnies leave the nest

Baby bunnies typically leave the nest at around 3 to 4 weeks of age. At this time, they are roughly the size of a tennis ball or a chipmunk, have their eyes open, ears upright, and are able to hop. They start venturing out on their own but may still return to the nest to sleep for a short time. By about 4 to 5 weeks, they become fully independent and capable of surviving on their own in the wild. During this period, mother rabbits nurse their young only briefly at dawn and dusk and otherwise stay away to avoid attracting predators to the nest. It is important to leave baby bunnies alone if found during this time unless they are injured, as they are naturally weaned and learning to survive independently.
