Hummingbirds in Ontario, primarily Ruby-throated Hummingbirds, typically leave by the end of August or early September. By mid-September, most have migrated south to southern Mexico and Central America, with very few lingering past early October. The adult males usually leave first in late July, followed by adult females, while immature hummingbirds are the last to depart in September. It is rare to see hummingbirds in Ontario after the beginning of October. It's recommended to keep hummingbird feeders up until you haven't seen a hummingbird for two weeks to ensure none are left behind for their long migration journey.
