Children typically lose their first tooth around the age of 5 or 6 years old. However, it can be normal for some kids to lose their first tooth as early as 4 years old or as late as 7 years old. The first teeth to fall out are usually the lower front teeth (central incisors), followed by the upper front teeth. This process of losing baby teeth continues generally until around age 12, as children lose all their 20 primary teeth to make room for permanent adult teeth.
The timeline for losing baby teeth may vary for each child, and early or late tooth loss is generally not a concern unless there are complications or no teeth have become loose by age 8, in which case a dentist should be consulted.
