Magpies typically stop swooping after their breeding/nesting season, which lasts about 6 to 8 weeks. In most places, this season is from August to October or sometimes extending to November. The swooping stops when the young birds (fledglings) have left the nest. Only a small percentage of male magpies actually swoop, and the behavior is a protective response to defend their eggs or chicks. Therefore, magpies usually stop swooping by late October or November when their chicks have matured and left the nest territory.
