You typically start to feel your baby moving, known as "quickening," between 16 and 25 weeks of pregnancy. For first-time pregnancies, it may be closer to 20 to 25 weeks before movement is felt, while in subsequent pregnancies, some women may feel movements as early as 13 to 16 weeks. The sensations are often described as flutters, butterflies, or gentle swishes. As the pregnancy progresses into the second and third trimesters, the movements become more distinct and stronger, including kicks and jabs. It is most common to feel the baby move when you are quiet and resting, either sitting or lying down.
