Double demerit points in New South Wales (NSW) start on specific public holiday periods and long weekends throughout the year. The next immediate double demerit period is for the Labour Day long weekend, which runs from Friday 3 October 2025 through to Monday 6 October 2025. Other double demerit periods in NSW for 2025 include Australia Day (24-27 January), Easter (17-21 April), Anzac Day (24-27 April), King’s Birthday (6-9 June), and the Christmas to New Year period (24 December 2025 to 4 January 2026). During these periods, certain offences such as speeding, illegal use of mobile phones, not wearing a seat belt, and riding without a motorcycle helmet attract double the usual demerit points but not double the fine.
