Magpie swooping season typically ends in October, sometimes extending as late as November at the latest. The season usually lasts around six to eight weeks from when the eggs are laid until the young magpies leave the nest. During this time, especially in spring (August to October), male magpies become territorial and protective of their nests, which is when the swooping behavior is most commonly observed. After the fledglings have matured and left the nest, the swooping generally ceases.
