when does the tax year finish

The UK tax year finishes on 5th April each year. The tax year runs from 6th April to 5th April the following year. For example, the 2025/26 tax year starts on 6th April 2025 and ends on 5th April 2026. This period is used for calculating income tax and filing tax returns with HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC).
