When giving compressions, the first aid responder should position their body with shoulders directly over their hands, elbows locked, and arms straight. This allows the responder to use their body weight to perform compressions effectively rather than relying on arm strength alone. The responder should place the heel of one hand on the center of the chest (lower half of the breastbone) with the other hand on top, fingers interlaced and kept off the chest. This positioning helps in achieving adequate compression depth and consistent rhythm for effective CPR compressions.
