The first college football game was played on November 6, 1869, between Rutgers University and the College of New Jersey (now known as Princeton University). The game was played in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Rutgers won the game with a score of 6-4. The rules were quite different from modern football, resembling soccer more, with teams consisting of 25 players and the objective being to kick the ball into the opponent's goal. Carrying or throwing the ball was not allowed in that first game.
