Veterans Day is observed annually on November 11. It honors military veterans of the United States Armed Forces and coincides with the anniversary of the armistice that ended World War I hostilities at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918. This holiday was originally called Armistice Day and was renamed Veterans Day in 1954 to honor all U.S. veterans. It is distinct from Memorial Day, which honors those who died while in military service, and is always observed on November 11 regardless of the day of the week it falls on.
