When jumping a car, the order and color of the jumper cables matter for safety:
- First, attach the red cable (positive) to the positive terminal of the dead battery.
- Then attach the other end of the red cable to the positive terminal of the working battery.
- Next, connect one end of the black cable (negative) to the negative terminal of the working battery.
- Finally, attach the other end of the black cable to an unpainted metal part of the car with the dead battery (not directly to its negative terminal) to act as a ground.
This order helps avoid sparks and other safety hazards during the jump-start process.
