You should go to the hospital for contractions based on these guidelines:
- If it is your first baby, go to the hospital when contractions feel strong, last 45 to 60 seconds, and occur every 3 to 4 minutes for at least 2 hours.
- If you have had a baby before, go to the hospital when contractions occur every 5 minutes for at least 1 hour.
- Go immediately if your water breaks.
- Go if you have heavy vaginal bleeding that looks like a menstrual period.
- Contact your doctor or midwife if contractions last longer than 50-60 seconds and come every 5 minutes for 2-3 hours or if you have any unusual symptoms like severe pain or a change in baby's movements.
These are general guidelines; if you are unsure, it is always best to call your healthcare provider or the hospital for advice before going.
