Abraham Lincoln was assassinated on the evening of April 14, 1865. He was shot by John Wilkes Booth while attending a special performance of the comedy "Our American Cousin" at Ford's Theatre in Washington, D.C. Lincoln was mortally wounded and died the following morning at 7:22 a.m. on April 15, 1865, at a boarding house across the street from the theater.
