D-Day was on June 6, 1944. It was the start of Operation Overlord, when Allied forces launched the largest amphibious invasion in the history of warfare, landing more than 150,000 troops on five beaches in Normandy, France. This marked the beginning of the liberation of Nazi-occupied France and Western Europe during World War II.
