The song "God Bless the USA" was written by Lee Greenwood in 1983. He wrote it on the back of his tour bus, inspired by his feelings about the shooting down of Korean Air Lines Flight 007 and his desire to write a patriotic song that reflected his pride in America and the need for unity. The song was released as a single in 1984 and went on to become his signature patriotic anthem.
Note: This is different from "God Bless America," a well-known patriotic song written by Irving Berlin in 1918 and revised in 1938.
