when was google created

Google was officially created and founded on September 4, 1998, by Larry Page and Sergey Brin in a garage in Menlo Park, California. The project began earlier in 1995 as a research project called "BackRub" by the two Stanford University Ph.D. students, and the name was later changed to "Google" in 1997, inspired by the mathematical term "googol" representing a very large number.
