John Lennon was shot and killed on December 8, 1980, in front of his residence, the Dakota apartment building, in New York City. The shooting occurred at approximately 10:50 p.m. Lennon was shot by Mark David Chapman, who fired five shots, four of which struck Lennon in the back and shoulder. Lennon was rushed to Roosevelt Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival shortly after the shooting.
