The Organisation of African Unity (OAU) was established on May 25, 1963, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. It was founded by 32 African states with the main goals of promoting unity and solidarity among African countries, eradicating colonialism and apartheid, and defending the sovereignty and territorial integrity of its member states.
The establishment of the OAU marked a significant step in uniting African nations post-independence, with the founding charter signed in Addis Ababa. The organization later transformed into the African Union (AU) in July 2002.
