Paracetamol was first synthesized by Harmon Northrop Morse at Johns Hopkins University around 1877. It was first administered to humans by Joseph von Mering in 1887, who published clinical findings on it. Despite its early discovery, paracetamol was not widely adopted until the mid-20th century, gaining popularity in the 1950s and thereafter.
