Initially named the Grant Park Municipal Stadium, it was renamed Soldier Field on November 11, 1925, to honor U.S. soldiers who died in World War I. The construction lasted from 1922 to 1928 in stages, with the stadium featuring 74,280 permanent seats and the ability to add temporary seating for more than 30,000 spectators. The stadium was officially dedicated as Soldier Field on November 27, 1926.
