The 9/11 attacks occurred on September 11, 2001. On that morning, 19 terrorists hijacked four commercial airplanes in the United States. Two planes were flown into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, one crashed into the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, and the fourth plane crashed into a field in Pennsylvania after passengers intervened. These coordinated terrorist attacks resulted in nearly 3,000 deaths and had profound impacts globally.
