when was the colosseum built

The Colosseum was built between 70 and 80 AD. Construction began under Emperor Vespasian around 70-72 AD and was completed in 80 AD under his son, Emperor Titus. Later, Emperor Domitian added the uppermost story around 82 AD. The building was constructed largely by Jewish slaves captured during the first Jewish-Roman war, overseen by Roman engineers and craftsmen. The Colosseum was officially dedicated in 80 AD with celebrations that lasted 100 days.
