when was the fbi created

The FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation) was created on July 26, 1908. It was originally established as the Bureau of Investigation (BOI) by Attorney General Charles J. Bonaparte during the presidency of Theodore Roosevelt. This new investigative force was formed to handle federal crimes and major investigations for the Department of Justice. The agency later evolved and officially became known as the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in 1935.
