when was the golden gate bridge built

The Golden Gate Bridge construction began on January 5, 1933. The bridge was completed and opened to vehicular traffic on May 29, 1937. It was built ahead of schedule and under budget at a cost of about $35 million at that time. The bridge was the longest suspension bridge span in the world when it was finished.
