The Vietnam War lasted from November 1, 1955, to April 30, 1975. It was a conflict fought primarily in Vietnam but also spilled into Laos and Cambodia. The war involved North Vietnam and its communist allies fighting against South Vietnam, supported chiefly by the United States and other anti-communist nations. The U.S. military involvement escalated significantly from 1965 until the withdrawal of U.S. troops by 1973. The war ended in 1975 with the fall of Saigon and the reunification of Vietnam under communist control.
