Zion National Park was officially established as a national park on November 19, 1919. Initially, the area was designated as Mukuntuweap National Monument by President William Howard Taft in 1909. The name was changed to Zion National Monument in 1918 before being redesignated as Zion National Park by an act of Congress in 1919, signed by President Woodrow Wilson.
