The Pittsburgh Steelers were founded on July 8, 1933, by Art Rooney Sr. Originally, the team was called the Pittsburgh Pirates until 1940, when it was renamed the Steelers in tribute to Pittsburgh's steel industry. The Steelers are the fifth-oldest franchise in the National Football League (NFL) and have a storied history with six Super Bowl titles.
