Hurricane Idalia made landfall near Keaton Beach, Florida, early on August 30, 2023, as a high-end Category 3 hurricane with sustained winds of 125 mph. It weakened steadily after landfall while crossing Florida and southern Georgia, becoming a tropical storm by late on August 30 and moving through coastal South Carolina. By the early afternoon of August 30, for much of Georgia, the direct threat from Idalia was over, and warnings were canceled by the evening of the same day. The storm exited the state of South Carolina early on August 31 and moved over the Atlantic Ocean, ending the immediate hurricane impacts around that time. Thus, Hurricane Idalia was effectively over by the end of August 31, 2023, after moving away from the southeastern U.S. coast.
