The Ratcliffe-on-Soar Power Station closed its final unit on September 30, 2024, after 57 years of operation. The decommissioning process, including the demolition of the eight 114-meter-high cooling towers, is expected to take around two years starting from the closure. Exact demolition dates have not been finalized yet, but the demolition of the cooling towers will be coordinated to avoid disruption to East Midlands Airport flights. The entire demolition and decommissioning phase is projected to be completed approximately by late 2026.
