when will the government shutdown

The government is scheduled to shut down if new funding legislation is not passed by midnight on September 30, 2025. As of now, Congress has not enacted any of the appropriations bills for the fiscal year 2026, and attempts to pass short-term funding measures have failed in the Senate. If the House and Senate cannot agree on a funding bill and receive the President's approval, the government will enter a shutdown starting October 1, 2025, at 12 a.m. Essential services will continue, but many federal employees will not receive pay during the shutdown.
