where are poinsettias from

Poinsettias are originally from Mexico and nearby parts of Central America. In the wild they grow as shrubs and small trees on the Pacific-facing slopes from central and southern Mexico down toward Guatemala. Historically, Indigenous peoples such as the Aztecs cultivated them in what is now southern Mexico, especially around the Taxco region.
