where are ribosomes made

Ribosomes are made in the nucleolus of eukaryotic cells. In the nucleolus, ribosomal RNA (rRNA) is synthesized and combined with ribosomal proteins imported from the cytoplasm to form the two subunits of the ribosome. These subunits are then exported separately to the cytoplasm where they assemble into functional ribosomes for protein synthesis. In prokaryotes, ribosome production and assembly occur in the cytoplasm.
