The Green Bay Packers are from Green Bay, Wisconsin. The team was founded in 1919 by Curly Lambeau and George Whitney Calhoun. Lambeau, who worked for the Indian Packing Company, secured funding for uniforms from his employer, and thus the team was named the "Packers" after the packing company. They originally played local teams in Wisconsin and Michigan before joining the American Professional Football Association (which later became the NFL) in 1921. The Packers have remained based in Green Bay, making them the smallest city to host an NFL franchise.
