- High School: He was head coach at Prime Prep Academy (2012-2013), a school he co-founded, and later coached at Triple A Academy for two seasons. In 2017, he became offensive coordinator at Trinity Christian High School, coaching his sons there
- College: Sanders became the head coach of Jackson State University in 2020, an HBCU competing in the NCAA Division I FCS. He led Jackson State to two Southwestern Athletic Conference championships and brought national attention to HBCU football
- Current Position: In December 2022, Sanders was named head coach of the University of Colorado Buffaloes football team, a position he currently holds. He has since signed a contract extension through the 2029 season and is one of the highest-paid coaches in college football
