Kosmos 482, a Soviet spacecraft originally intended to land on Venus, did not leave Earth orbit due to a launch failure and remained in orbit for over 53 years. It finally re-entered Earth's atmosphere and landed in the Indian Ocean, west of Jakarta, Indonesia. According to the Russian space agency Roscosmos, the spacecraft entered the atmosphere at 9:24 Moscow time (8:24 Central European Summer Time) about 560 km west of Middle Andaman Island and subsequently fell into the sea west of Jakarta
