Specifically, Iryna Zarutska was stabbed on the Lynx Blue Line train after boarding at the East/West Boulevard light rail station in the South End area of Charlotte. The attack occurred while she was seated in an aisle seat in front of the suspect, who pulled a knife and stabbed her multiple times during the approximately four-and-a-half-minute journey before emergency help arrived. Zarutska suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene on the train.
