Aphids come from a variety of natural sources. They are sap-sucking insects that reproduce rapidly, often through asexual reproduction where females give live birth to female nymphs. Many aphid species have complex life cycles that may involve alternating between different host plants. They can come into new areas by winged females flying in with the wind or by being transported on infested plants. Aphids also overwinter as eggs in temperate regions and hatch in spring to start new colonies. Humans can inadvertently bring aphids home by moving infested plants indoors or outdoors. Additionally, aphids are commonly found on surrounding plants or weeds from where they spread easily to crops or garden plants.
