Kangaroos primarily sleep on the ground in a horizontal position, lying on their side with their forelimbs supporting their head. They usually seek out shaded areas such as under small bushes, mulga trees, or in bushland and woodlands to rest during the day, protecting themselves from the heat and predators. Most kangaroos are nocturnal or crepuscular, so they sleep mainly during the day and are active at night and around dusk and dawn. Tree kangaroos are an exception, as they sleep in trees. Generally, kangaroos do not sleep standing up but prefer lying down in comfortable, concealed spots where they can rest safely.
