Sperm mature in the epididymis, a coiled tube located along the top and back of each testicle. After sperm are produced in the seminiferous tubules of the testes, they move into the epididymis where they undergo maturation, gaining motility and the ability to fertilize an egg. This maturation process in the epididymis takes several weeks, during which sperm develop the structures necessary for movement and fertilization
