Sun bears live in the tropical forests of Southeast Asia. Their range extends from northeastern India and Bangladesh through Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam on the mainland, down to the islands of Borneo, Sumatra, and Malaysia in Southeast Asia. They inhabit primarily tropical evergreen rainforests, deciduous and seasonally evergreen forests, and mangroves close to these habitats, usually found at low elevations but also at higher altitudes up to 3,000 meters in some regions. The habitat spans dense lowland tropical forests where they are excellent climbers and spend much time in the trees.
