The Indus River originates from the Tibetan Plateau near Lake Mansarovar, while the Ganga River originates from the Gangotri Glacier in the Indian state of Uttarakhand. Specifically, the Ganga is formed at the confluence of its headstreams, the Bhagirathi (originating at Gaumukh at the base of the Gangotri Glacier) and the Alaknanda, which meet at Devprayag to officially become the Ganga River.
