Barack Obama currently lives primarily in Washington, D.C., in the Kalorama neighborhood. After leaving the White House in 2017, the Obamas rented and later purchased a large brick mansion there, which offers them privacy and ample space. The home has nine bedrooms, eight and a half bathrooms, and various amenities, and it is located in an affluent area known for housing politicians and diplomats. This residence remains their main home, allowing Obama to stay involved in political and social activities through the Obama Foundation
. In addition to their D.C. home, the Obamas own several other properties:
- A home in the Kenwood neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois, which they purchased in 2000 and where they originally settled before the presidency

- A three-acre waterfront property on the island of Oahu, Hawaii, purchased in 2015, which serves as a private retreat and reflects Obama's roots in Hawaii
