The place that receives the most rain in the world is Mawsynram, located in the northeastern state of Meghalaya, India. It receives an astonishing annual rainfall of about 467 inches (approximately 11,872 millimeters), making it the rainiest place on Earth. The heavy rainfall is mainly due to the monsoon season from June to September, which brings warm, moist air from the Bay of Bengal to this region. Following Mawsynram is Cherrapunji, also in Meghalaya, India, with a slightly lower annual rainfall of about 463 inches. Other notably rainy places include Tutendo in Colombia, Bioko Island in Equatorial Guinea, and Debundscha in Cameroon, which also receive hundreds of inches of rain annually. The city with the most rainy days per year is Buenaventura, Colombia, where it rains approximately 258 days annually, but in terms of sheer volume, Mawsynram holds the record for the most rain overall in a year.
