where does the columbia river start

The Columbia River starts at Columbia Lake, located in the Rocky Mountains of British Columbia, Canada. The lake is at an elevation of about 2,690 to 2,700 feet (820 meters) above sea level. From there, the river flows northwest and then south into the U.S. state of Washington, continuing its long journey to the Pacific Ocean.
